What an electronic signature is
Signing a PDF electronically places a representation of your signature — your drawn name, a typed name, or an uploaded signature image — onto the page, along with an optional date. The result is a completed document you can distribute instantly, with no printing, signing, and scanning loop. Electronic signatures are ordinary workflow tools; the confidence they carry comes from context, not from cryptographic certificates.
Draw, type, or upload
- Draw — the most natural option. Sign with a mouse, trackpad, or finger on a touch screen. Great when you want your real handwriting shape.
- Type — pick a font and type your name. Clean and quick for internal approvals and less personal documents.
- Upload — bring an existing signature image (PNG, JPG, or WebP). Perfect if you have a scanned or digitally created signature you reuse everywhere.
How to sign a PDF step by step
- Open the sign tool. Go to Sign PDF.
- Upload the PDF. Drag and drop the agreement or choose it from your device. Everything stays local.
- Create your signature. Choose draw, type, or upload, and save it as your signature for this document.
- Place it on the page. Drag the signature field onto the signature line — and add a date field alongside if the document calls for one.
- Sign the remaining pages. For multi-page contracts, place the signature and date on every page that needs them.
- Download. Save the signed PDF. Your original file remains unmodified, so you can sign again with a different placement anytime.
Multi-page contracts
Most agreements need more than one signature. The tool lets you place the signature and date repeatedly across pages — sign the cover, initial each page, and sign the final page in a single pass. When you are done, spot check the last page and any page that references "signature below" to be sure nothing is missing.
After signing: protect and distribute
Once everyone has signed, the document is the final version. Take two small precautions:
- Run Protect PDF to lock the signed file with a password so no one edits or replaces it by accident.
- Use Redact PDF to permanently black out any personal or confidential data on earlier pages before the signed file goes out.
